Excerpt from The Kingdom Rav Sha'ul   The Line upon line, precept upon precept by Rav Sha'ul Question just asked of me: "Sha'ul, I notice you say the Scriptures should be studied "line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little... there a little" to build doctrine as opposed to "sound bites" strung together out of context. However, the place you refer to is in Isaiah 28:13 and that is CLEARLY saying that is NOT the way to study, it leads to stumbling and falling from the Truth?!?!? Am I missing something?" I realize the way Isaiah is worded it is rather difficult to discern exactly what he is trying to say. Isaiah 28:13 13 But the word of Yahuah was to them, “Precept upon precept, precept upon precept, Line upon line, line upon line, Here a little, there a little,” That they might go and fall backward and be broken And snared and caught. This is a prime example of both "sound biting" AND mistranslation! First, let's not sound bite just that verse in Isaiah, verse 13. Let's put it into context of what Isaiah is actually saying. Then correct the poor mistranslation of verse 13 to reveal what is really being said... So, what Isaiah is saying, in context, when you read it all is that the teachers/prophets/priest have erred. Verse 7 explain the context by which the erred, is "strong drink and wine" which is a metaphor for being filled with the WRONG Rauch (wine represents the Spirit) and their teachings and visions are as verse 8 "vomit" just another way of saying their approach (sound bite driven) is half hazard and like "throwing darts at a dart board" or ... as he said a bunch of drunks trying to teach the scriptures. Isaiah 28:7-8 7 But they also have erred through wine, And through intoxicating drink are out of the way; The priest and the prophet have erred through intoxicating drink, They are swallowed up by wine, They are out of the way through intoxicating drink; They err in vision, they stumble in judgment. 8 For all tables are full of vomit and filth; No place (is the doctrine they teach) is clean. Then Isaiah calls them Spiritual Children trying to understand the Scriptures in verse 9. Their approach to the Scriptures is very immature (sound bite driven) not in the proper way... which he then states... in verse 10, he compares and contrasts THEIR teaching with the way it MUST be done... line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little there a little as Yahuah disclosed His Word progressively over time to many different inspired men and prophets.   Isaiah 28:10  “Whom will he teach knowledge? And whom will he make to understand the message? Those just weaned from milk? Those just drawn from the breasts? 10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, Line upon line, line upon line, Here a little, there a little.”   Now as a result of their abusing the Scriptures in verse 11, he says Yahuah will speak to them in a mystery language of parables and parallels "another tongue" read my article on The Mystery Language, because they failed to study His word the proper way, so He made it to where you have to be chosen to understand because from that point forward... He speaks in a mystery In verse 12, they still (theses little children attempting to teach) refused to Hear... so.................. Now comes verse 13.   This is a MOCKING statement a negative, check the word in the Hebrew... this is mistranslated in the English Bible as a positive statement instead of a negative mocking statement...   http://biblehub.com/hebrew/6673.htm Brown-Driver-Briggs צַו apparently noun [masculine], dubious word; — in הָלַךְ אַחֲרֵיצָָֿ֑ו Hosea 5:11 usually command, ordinance; < ᵐ5 ᵑ6 Che Now GASm שָׁוְא; elsewhere only צַו לָצָ֨ו צַו לָצָ֔ו ("" קַו לָקָו קָו קַו לָקָו), Isaiah 28:10 in mocking mimicry of Isaiah's words (against the false teachers)   Look at the word used in Isaiah 28:13. It is a DUBIOUS word, "in mocking or mimicry of Isaiah's words" in verse 10!... so it should be translated as such in the English Bible to make the entire chapter make sense with what Isaiah is saying... it should have a 'NOT' in there to make it a negative mocking statement... Below is the proper way to translated verse 13 given it is a NEGATIVE MOCKING DUBIOUS statement...   Isaiah 28:13 "13 But the word of Yahweh was NOT (S6673) to them precept upon precept; precept upon precept; line upon line; line upon line; here a little, and there a little; so they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.  Perfect example of sound biting verse 13, taking a MISTRANSLATED English Bible's word for it.... and being totally misled by it. The way "I" would translate this IN CONTEXT of all of Isaiah 28 and the Hebrew word h6673 is this:   Isaiah 28:13 "13 But (they made a mockery of) the word of Yahweh (with their drunken sound bite approach that) was NOT (S6673) to them precept upon precept; precept upon precept; line upon line; line upon line; here a little, and there a little; so they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.   I highlighted the word below h6673 that should be a negative... "NOT" that was conveniently left out... as the translators did exactly what Isaiah said they do... make a mockery of the Scriptures. The way they translated this makes Isaiah look like an idiot for totally contradicting himself! On one hand verse 10 you MUST study Scripture line upon line precept upon precept, then he totally contradicts himself in verse 13 say if you do that you will be lead astray. Blessings, Rav Sha'ul
